Justin Zemlyak

Success Story

Justin Zemlyak, a 46-year-old technology director from South Bend, Indiana, enjoys golfing, playing video games, working out, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Justin’s active lifestyle came to a halt after suffering a stroke. While receiving initial treatment at an acute care hospital, Justin’s wife researched several rehabilitation options. Ultimately, they decided on Bloomington Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (BRRH) after speaking with a close friend. “Our friend’s mother stayed at BRRH and had a great experience,” Justin says.  I trusted my friend and knew he wasn’t blowing smoke about their experience.”

Justin says he’s very competitive and worked hard in therapy. “My therapists, Cindy and Clair, pushed me to do multiple things and helped me to reach a comfort level with therapy,” he says. “Nurses Rachel and Rebecca, along with everyone else here, made me feel at ease. They all genuinely care.”

During therapy, when Justin progressed to using a walker and climbed some stairs, the therapy room exploded with cheers. “I’m making new strides every day, which is exciting.” Justin says. His goal is to walk with a cane and eventually play golf again. He’s looking forward also cooking, driving, and socializing with friends as he continues his recovery.
