Cameron Wray
Success Story
James “Cameron” Wray is a 31-year-old classically trained musician who plays the French horn. Originally from Ventura, California, he moved to Bloomington to attend the Indiana University Jacob School of Music where he graduated in 2016. Cameron now performs with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, the oldest professional symphony orchestra in Indiana. When not arranging and playing music, Cameron enjoys spending time with his wife, Alicia, and playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends.
After noticing a tingling in his foot, Cameron’s primary care physician ordered an MRI that showed that his spinal column was crushing his spinal cord. He was told he needed to lose weight before being able to schedule thoracic spinal stenosis surgery to help with the condition. Cameron initially underwent a bariatric surgery, but unfortunately, a wound became septic and caused his healing to slow. Unable to work because of the complications, it was a very difficult time for Cameron.
Eventually, Cameron was able to undergo the thoracic spinal stenosis surgery. The hospital therapists who worked after the surgery recommended that he continue his rehabilitation at Bloomington Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (BRRH). Cameron found the admissions process easy to navigate.
Once at BRRH, Cameron worked with a therapy team to get back to his baseline strength, endurance, and functionality. “Claire, an occupational therapist, and Kandy, a physical therapist, helped to make the process bearable,” he says. “They made an uncomfortable situation pleasant.” Cameron says he now is putting himself first and taking care of his needs to get better.
After two weeks of treatment, Cameron was discharged from BRRH. He’s looking forward to returning home to his family and performing and arranging music once again.
